Bentley and Yogi
Bentley and Skye (well, and Peter)
Yogi and Baloo
was a non- traditional girls camp offering numeros activities on and along Lake Champlain, including Riding and Swimming. It sadly closed in 1980 but generations of campers still sing its songs and cherish its memories. There was also an alleged "alien abduction" of a camper right here, believe it or not (check out the book " The Encounter at Buff Ledge")...
BLC's tradition as a property where horses and women connect was continued by Katherine Hope Bertelson, a beautiful equestrienne who purchased the camp in the late 80s. She found a gigantic footprint on the property which earned her (and the property) the name "Big Foot". Her horse Christopher, a gorgeous Tennessee Walker with the spirit of a race horse and the manners of a gentleman will be forever present at Big Foot Stables.
Current owner Jessica Ebert Edelmann met Hope in the late 90s, after she had moved to Vermont from Germany to be with her husband Peter. The horses at Big Foot became her first friends in the new world - and she never left again. She and Peter bought the lakeside of Buff Ledge Camp in 2000 - just across the street from Big Foot, and then converted Big Foot Stables into a co-op, an idea that proved to be the best solution for people who wanted to be involved in the care and spend more time with their horses one on one. Buff Ledge Camp now has 4 rental homes and 2 barns with 8 stalls, chores performed by the horse owners and coop members.
Jessica practiced equine law as an attorney in Burlington and teaches Equine Law at Vermont Technical College and UVM. Her husband Peter and her children Katarina and Janosh share her passion for the little farm - and so do her Newfys Baloo, Yogi, Bentley and now Skye, the ultimate farm and family dogs....
